About David - David Lord

   David Lord was born in England just before the Second World War. He grew up in bombed-out London, studied at Durham University and became an educator, eventually settling in Port Alberni, Canada, with his artist wife Shirley. He is proud of the two daughters raised there, and follows their careers and families with loving interest.
    From an early age, David was fascinated by the world’s unsolved mysteries, becoming convinced that the big picture is really far more complex than what our limited senses can detect. We are out of tune for much of what exists; it is ‘dark’ to us - except perhaps for psychics or theoretical scientists.
    The unknown is all around, and it occasionally connects in bewildering ways. In his Gathering Green novels, David’s imagination explores hidden influences as they might play out in everyday lives. His work is influenced by interests in mythology, archaeology, religions, folklore and popular science.
   Drawn by a curiosity for the old and mysterious, David and Shirley spent many years working and travelling in Britain, Western Europe, Asia Minor and the U.S.A. More recent experiences include time in Russia, India, China, Tibet, Indonesia and The Caribbean. The awesome castles, cathedrals, temples and customs have provided ideas for his writing, as have exceptionally atmospheric places like Stonehenge, Pompeii, Delphi, Ephesus, Lhasa and the Taj Mahal.
   Besides experiencing the world he can see, David enjoys his family and friends, the fruits of his large garden and trying to bring imagination to print.
